Picture this! You’re excited and feel honored to be a mother of two boys. You give birth twice and take your new babies home. There are a string of sleepless nights, midday panic attacks to make sure your baby is still breathing through naps, and a host of other things too long to mention. But then, just when things seem to ease up a little and your children are a little more independent, BAM!!! You understand just what it means to be a boy mom when you see their bathroom. How in the world am I supposed to clean this kind of mess?
Four Tips To Teach Your Kids to Clean Their Bathroom
My two boys are now 9 and 6 years old, and I’m not going to lie, their bathroom toilet (and everything around it) frustrated me. So I decided to teach them the proper way to clean their bathroom. I wanted to make sure they actually watched the entire cleaning process. So I had them shadow me. Because I learned if they had to clean it themselves, the mess wouldn’t be so big. Art of Green has been blowing our mind with how it gets things clean. More about that later. I have to give my you my tips before we “lose our marbles.”
- Show your kids the proper order to clean the bathroom, so there is no cross-contamination. Our order for our home is the sink, bathtub, and then toilet last.
- It’s important that your children actually see you clean the bathroom first, such as the way you wipe things down.
- Lastly, give them the grace to learn, it won’t be perfect. The first couple of times and you may have to clean after they clean (which is what I did for months). The important thing is that they learn.

The cleaning wipes from Art of Green are actually a lifesaver for those in-between bathroom messes my boys make. Like wiping the toothpaste from the sink during the week. Also, the mirror spit marks that come from brushing their teeth. What are these kids doing during bathroom time, I will never understand. I also encourage them to wipe up any toilet accidents that happen to keep the toilet fresh and clean. When using Art of Green’s wipes and multisurface spray, our bathroom still smells clean hours later. They come in two amazing scents: Lavender Eucalyptus and Citrus & White Flowers.
